Physical signs: staying dry for 2–3 hours at a stretch, walking steadily, and being able to pull pants up and down independently. Behavioural signs: showing interest in the toilet or in others using it, telling you when they're wet or need to go, and being able to follow simple two-step instructions. If most of these are missing, it's usually worth waiting a little longer rather than pushing ahead.
