Frequently Asked Questions — Baby Cots & Cribs

What safety features should I check before buying a cot or crib?
Three things matter most: slat spacing should be no more than about 6cm apart (roughly the width of a soda can) so your baby's head or limbs can't get stuck; the mattress should fit snugly with no gaps you can fit two fingers into around the edges; and avoid any cot with movable drop-side rails, which have been banned in many markets over entrapment and collapse risks. A firm, flat mattress is also essential — soft surfaces increase suffocation risk for infants.
How do I know if a mattress fits my cot properly?
Press the mattress into each corner of the cot frame and check the gap all the way around. If you can fit two fingers between the mattress edge and the cot frame at any point, the mattress is too small for that cot and should be replaced with a correctly sized one, even if it's the same brand.
Why do cots have adjustable mattress heights, and when should I lower it?
A higher mattress setting makes it easier to lift a small newborn in and out without straining your back. Lower the mattress as your baby grows and starts pushing up onto hands and knees or pulling up to stand, since a high mattress combined with a mobile baby becomes a fall risk over the rail.
When should I transition my child from a cot to a toddler bed?
Most children move to a toddler bed somewhere between 2 and 3 years old, and many sleep specialists suggest waiting closer to 3 where possible, since earlier transitions are linked to more bedtime struggles and night wakings. The clearest safety signal to move sooner regardless of age: if your child starts climbing out of the cot, that's the point to transition immediately to prevent a fall, since a mattress height low enough to prevent climbing isn't always achievable once a toddler is determined.
Are drop-side cots safe?
We don't stock cots with movable drop-side rails. These have been linked to entrapment and structural failure risks and are restricted or banned in several major markets. All our cots have fixed, non-movable side rails.
What's the difference between a cot, a crib, a cradle, and a travel cot?
Cots and cribs are largely used interchangeably and refer to the main stationary sleep space, typically used from birth to toddlerhood. A cradle is smaller and usually rocks or sways, generally used for the first few months only before your baby outgrows it. A travel cot is a lightweight, foldable alternative for trips, visits to family, or use in a second room — not intended as your baby's primary everyday sleep space long-term.
Do you deliver cots islandwide, and is assembly required?
Yes, we deliver islandwide within 1–5 days. Most cots require some assembly — check the specific product listing, or ask us and we'll confirm what's involved before it arrives.
