Baby Playpens in Sri Lanka
A playpen gives your baby a safe space to explore while you're nearby but not hands-on every second — but there's a real window for when to start and when to stop using one. We stock 4-panel and 6-panel Poco Casa playpens, with accessories including a granny gate, mattresses, mosquito nets, and additional padding.
Frequently Asked Questions — Baby Playpens
What age can I start using a playpen?
Most parents introduce a playpen somewhere between 3–8 months, once a baby has developed head and neck control and can sit or roll independently, but before they've mastered pulling up or climbing. For very young babies, use a firm, flat mat inside the pen rather than soft bedding.
When should I stop using a playpen?
Stop once your child can easily climb out, or begins attempting to pull up to stand and climb, which typically happens somewhere between 12 and 18 months, though this varies a lot by child. Some general size guidance also applies: many manufacturers set an upper limit around 86cm in height or 14kg in weight — check your specific playpen's limit rather than relying on age alone.
What makes a playpen safe?
Avoid placing the playpen near windows, blind or curtain cords (a strangulation risk), or any furniture your baby could use to climb out. If considering a hand-me-down or older playpen, check that it doesn't have large diamond-shaped mesh openings, since a baby's head can become trapped in overly large gaps — our current range uses solid panels rather than wide mesh for this reason.
Can I add extra padding or a mattress inside the playpen?
Use only the firm, snug-fitting mattress or mat designed for your specific playpen model. Adding extra soft padding, pillows, or blankets on top increases suffocation risk, particularly for younger babies who can't yet reposition themselves independently.
Can a playpen double as a travel cot?
Some panel playpens can serve a similar function for supervised daytime rest away from home, but they're generally bulkier and less portable than a dedicated fold-up travel cot. If travel portability is your main need, a travel cot is usually the better fit — ask us if you're deciding between the two.
What accessories are available for your playpens?
Our Poco Casa playpens support a granny gate (a smaller gated section for easy access without lifting your baby over the panel), mattresses, mosquito nets (particularly useful in Sri Lanka's climate), and additional padding — check the specific product listing for which accessories are compatible with your panel count (4-panel or 6-panel).
Do you deliver islandwide, and is assembly required?
Yes, we deliver islandwide within 1–5 days. Panel playpens generally require simple assembly (connecting panels) rather than tools — ask us if you'd like specifics before ordering.
