Manual or electric breast pump — which should I choose?
A manual pump is lightweight, quiet, and great for occasional use — travelling, or expressing a bottle now and then. If you're pumping regularly (3+ times a day, for work or building a supply), an electric pump saves real time and effort, and a double electric pump in particular cuts session time roughly in half.
Why does flange size matter so much?
The flange is the part that fits around your nipple, and getting the size right (measuring your nipple diameter, not your areola) makes a real difference to comfort and how effectively milk is expressed. A poorly fitting flange is one of the most common reasons parents think they have a low supply when the issue is really just fit — your nipple should move freely in the tunnel without rubbing.
How do I clean and sterilise pump parts?
Wash all parts that contact milk in warm soapy water after each use, and sterilise regularly (see our Sterilising collection for steriliser options) — similar hygiene practice to bottle feeding gear.
